How it works
Two different approaches to the same problem.
Works on odour
Sodium bicarbonate and magnesium hydroxide raise the pH of the skin surface above the range that odour-producing bacteria prefer. Less bacterial activity means less smell. Your sweat glands work normally. You still sweat. You simply do not smell.
- Raises skin surface pH
- Slows odour-producing bacteria
- Normal sweat function preserved
- No aluminium compounds
- Two to three week adjustment period
Works on sweat
Aluminium salts form a temporary plug inside the sweat duct. Sweat cannot reach the skin surface. No sweat means no bacterial activity and no odour. The biological process is physically blocked rather than environmentally influenced.
- Aluminium salts block sweat ducts
- No sweat output at application site
- Works immediately, no adjustment period
- Applied daily to skin near lymph nodes
- Residue builds up in fabric over time
Neither is medically superior. One uses chemistry to block a process. The other uses chemistry to influence an environment. We make the second kind, and we think the trade-off is worth it. You get to decide.
What to expect
The first four weeks. Honestly.
Most people who abandon natural deodorant do it in week two. This is what is actually happening, week by week.
-
The reopening
Your sweat glands are functioning normally again after aluminium use. Things may feel wetter than you are used to. This is your body doing exactly what it is supposed to do.
-
The adjustment peak
Bacterial populations on your skin are recalibrating. Odour may be stronger than it was with your previous product. This is usually the hardest week. Most people who stop, stop here. Try not to.
-
The shift
The bacterial environment on your skin is settling into its new balance. Most customers notice a meaningful improvement this week. Things start feeling normal again.
-
The new normal
This is what natural deodorant actually performs like on your body. For most people this is better than they expected. If irritation has persisted to this point, that is real information worth acting on.
Questions we get
The seven we hear most.
Probably yes, in the first two weeks. Antiperspirants reduce sweat output by blocking ducts. When you stop using them, normal sweat function resumes. This is not the deodorant failing. It is your body working as it should. It settles.
Wait at least 20 minutes. Freshly shaved skin has microscopic abrasions that are not visible but are very real. Sodium bicarbonate on raw skin is the most common cause of the rash people report with natural deodorant. Wait, then apply.
It depends on what caused the reaction. If it was baking soda, this formula also contains it, so there is a real risk. We use it at a lower concentration paired with magnesium hydroxide, which is gentler. Test on the inside of your wrist for two days before applying to the underarm.
Less than most natural deodorants because the plant oil base helps the formula absorb rather than sit on the surface. Apply to fully dry skin and wait 30 seconds before dressing. Dark fabrics are more forgiving than they are with aluminium-based products.
Two to three weeks with daily use. The stick is 75 g, which is larger than most mainstream deodorant sticks that run 40 to 50 g. Two to three strokes per application is enough. Over-applying wastes product and can cause irritation.
We cannot give medical advice. What we can say is that this formula contains no aluminium compounds, no parabens, no synthetic fragrance, and no alcohol. The full INCI list is on this page. If you are pregnant and concerned about specific ingredients, bring the list to your midwife or GP.
The same way as anyone else, but your adjustment period may run closer to three weeks than two. You can also do a gradual switch: use the natural deodorant on lower-sweat days, and your usual antiperspirant on days you need the certainty. Most people phase out the antiperspirant naturally over four to six weeks without consciously deciding to.
What does the work
Three ingredients. Three jobs.
Sodium Bicarbonate
Raises skin pH. Bacteria stop working.
Odour-producing bacteria are pH-sensitive. Baking soda shifts the surface above their viable range. No bacteria activity, no smell.
Magnesium Hydroxide
Gentler mineral. Works where baking soda cannot.
A different antimicrobial mechanism to baking soda. The two work together — lower irritation risk, stronger combined effect.
Plant Oil Base
Carries the actives. Conditions the skin underneath.
Coconut and shea oils apply the actives evenly and leave the underarm in better shape than they found it.
How to use it
Four steps. Thirty seconds.
-
01
Clean, dry skin only
-
02
Two to three smooth strokes
-
03
Wait 30 seconds before dressing
-
04
After shaving, wait 20 minutes
What we left out
Not in this formula.
Eight ingredients common in mainstream deodorants. None of them are here.
Full INCI list is printed on every product page. Read it before buying.
